Description of the competition terrain Print

The typical «jurassic» terrain is situated between 1’000 and 1’300 meters above sea level and is generally alternating semi-open and pine forest. The foresst are characterized – for most of it – by rolling hills, a diffuse trail network and a partially rocky ground with occasional smaller crevasses. The predominant objects are mainly rocky features and terrain relief. For this reason the run-ability is relatively restricted in some parts of the forest. thumb_karte.jpg

Model event: Le Prévoux-Le Petit Calirou
This terrain is composed by two distinct parts: the first part extends on a long hill with a relatively dense amount of forest is rich in details and in trails; the other part is rougher because of the rocky ground and some undergrowth, the relief system makes the orienteering more complex.

Qualification 2: Les Cottards
This terrain has coniferous forest with presence of undergrowth. It is a mix of forest and semi-open terrain. Most parts of the competition will be held in the forested areas. The terrain offers many technical difficulties, for one because of its irregular hills and its relief variation, as for its richness in rocky features.

Final: Le Cernil
This terrain is the one with the most forested area suggested for those WMOC and is considered one of the most interesting of the Jura region; it has already been used for the WOC relay in 1981. The occasional semiopen terrain will not be used much in the final. The terrain is rich in hills and rocky features. The areas with lime stone detail are also more frequent in comparison with the other competition terrains.
